Getting Experience as a Graphic Designer-Working for Free - DIGRAPE "Diseños Gráficos Peña" - http://digrape.com

Should you work for free when you are just starting out in the very competitive world of graphic design? This can be a hard question for many young graphic designers who are just starting out. With a highly competitive environment, young designers must often choose to work for free in internships and other projects simply to get their foot in the door. Here are some cogent reasons why getting experience as a graphic designer is so important and why you may want to work for free.

Getting the knowledge and experience you need

One of the most compelling reasons why you may want to work for free is that it is absolutely imperative that you learn as much as possible about the world of graphic design before you decide to make it to your subject of study and your career. You will save a lot of time and energy learning this knowledge early on.

How other people become graphic designers

The funny thing about being a graphic designer is that many people stumble into the career and field by accident. Many people naively enter the field because of their love of letterforms and art. Many people also get their first taste of graphic design when they volunteer to make a school flyer or a newsletter. So, in fact, many people start off in graphic design by taking on projects for free, either for themselves or for others.

What you need to become a good graphic designer

What is the most important thing that you need in order to become a good graphic designer? In truth, what you most need is experience. Do you need a college degree or a certificate to prove that you are a true graphic designer? Becoming a professional graphic designer does not always mean getting a certificate, degree or postgraduate education in graphic design. Many graphic design artists split their time on a variety of projects, including illustrators, writers, animator, cartoonists, typesetters and painters.

Speaking the language of graphic design

Formal education or no formal education, all graphic designers speak the same basic language and vocabulary. It is important that you learn this language in order to establish yourself as a graphic designer. How can you learn this language? By becoming a graphic designer. There is better training than on the job training, which is a compelling reason for taking on work for free. Graphic design is both a business and an art, and it has never been a particularly easy thing to do well. Any experience you can get in this often complicated and intriguing field is well worth the trouble.

Build up your portfolio with "free" work

The truth is that even though you are not getting paid, you are still getting something in return. Working for free often allows you to build up your portfolio, which is very important if you are planning on entering the field and auditioning for paid, salaried positions. Many times, working for free as an intern or volunteer allows you access to the machines and equipment that you would otherwise not have access to. You will pick up the experience you need to learn to use many different forms of technology and equipment, which is important in order to build up your portfolio. Everything that you do for free allows you to put it on your resume and take from it the knowledge that you might not otherwise have if you had not taken the initiative to work for free.

How long should you work for free?

Working for free is a good idea if you are a student or just starting out, but it is not something that should be done for any long period of time. You should be getting experience and practice—in other words, you should be getting something in return. If you are working for free but are not getting access to knowledge and equipment, it may be time to move on.

How to Know if Becoming a Graphic Designer is Right for You? - DIGRAPE.com

How to Know if Becoming a Graphic Designer is Right for You - DIGRAPE "Diseños Gráficos Peña" - http://digrape.com

So you want to become a graphic designer? Do you really believe you have what it takes? It is considered a very respectable profession, but that there are a few things you need to be aware of along the way.

One graphic artist relays his message to others. He writes about how they recruit graphics designers now as if it is so easy and anybody can do it. However, for him it was not always that way. Not only that, but according to this article it appears that his school had made it as if anyone could just do it.

Anybody that would like to be able to do would have a great chance of succeeding in this field. However, the point that this person was making is that it is not as easy as one would like to think. It is not always easy in training and not always easy after you get hired onto a company.

The frustration in this field does not end upon first hire for some people. If they cannot keep up with current technology they will be out of business for good.

In fact, it gets difficult as a person ages sometimes as well. Middle-aged to senior employees who still have quite a bit of talent deal with the pressure to keep up at work.

Otherwise, they could be replaced by newer, younger, fresher, faster, or more talented artists. Many loyal near-retirees have lost lucrative positions this way.

Another issue that could affect the future of technology is the discovery that computers are now easy enough for children to use. Just count the number of children between 5 and 18, for instance, and figure out for yourself how many of them use the computer.

It is often thought of as a challenging and rewarding career. However, it is also someone unpredictable and stressful. Furthermore, it is a very expensive business to start if you want to promote high-quality images and art work.

Furthermore, it can be a time-consuming process to join the forces of a freelance career in graphic arts. However, if you have a real passion and you do not mind working hard then this may be the right career for you.

It helps to have some talent in that area as well, and it helps if you believe in your self. Parts of this article may be harsh, and not meant to scare anyone. It is just the cold, hard truth.

Freelancing does not come easy for everyone, but determined people seem to think it is worth for them to be able to do what they love to do the most-create art. So, if this article has not scared you out of freelance writing it may be time for you to think of some reasons why you would love to be in this career.

It is because you have an eye for blending color? Do you like the satisfaction of a job well done? Is it a means by which to express what is inside of you? It could be all of the above if you want it to be.

If you are really sure this is what you want to do deep down in the pit of your stomach than it may be wise for you to take a chance. In this case, what are you waiting for? Get out there and get ready for what you always have wanted to do!

Other positives aspects of freelance graphic art careers-One aspect is that it is a job field that experiences a steady rate of economic growth.

It is about average for the job of its field. Even though you may need to work hard to be accepted as a freelance artist, once you get in the door it is likely to be easier for you in some ways.

It may never be totally smooth sailing for you as life never is. However, if you apply yourself and never lose your spirit you will advance in this career as far as you are willing to go. Most likely those who watch over you will be proud.
